Learn, Experience, Action
From the forest floor to the printed page — learning that starts with what people already know.
Know the Vertical
Know About MTF Jana-Gyan
Every camp, walkshop, workshop, training and book belongs to one learning ecosystem.
The Forest Is the Classroom.
Learning happens where people live — on the path, at the forest edge, in the courtyard — and returns to the community that carried it in the first place.

The Learner Already Knows Something
Every session starts from knowledge already in the room.

An Alternative Learning System
A second road, not a supplement.
Dialogue, Not Deposit
Inspired by Paulo Freire. Start with what learners already know.
The Learner Is a Co-Creator
Participatory mapping, ranking, seasonal calendars and transect walks turn learners into investigators.
The Image Before the Sentence
Visual storytelling makes ecology and mathematics visible before they become abstract.
“Hand over the chalk. The facilitator’s first job is to listen.”

Learning
by doing.
Every session begins with the hands — walking a forest trail, drawing a chart together, shaping a mask, dyeing cloth with colour from the land. The knowledge stays because it was made, not merely heard.

Participatory Learning Camps
The chart is drawn together.
Elders, facilitators and learners map what the village already knows, in the village's own hand.

04Visual Expression of mathematics
Two Workshops on Seeing Mathematics
Before the symbol, the picture.
Mathematics loses children at the point where it becomes symbols on a board with no picture behind them. Two workshops on visual storytelling in mathematics tested the opposite route — the shape, the pattern, the story first, and the notation afterwards, as a summary of something already understood.
