Vision & Mission

What guides us

Vision

Self-reliant, ecologically resilient and culturally rooted communities — where education, ecology and livelihood grow together, and villages can live well on what they already hold.

Mission

To empower rural and tribal communities through participatory education, ecological stewardship, sustainable livelihoods and indigenous wisdom — learning with the community, building models on the ground, and handing them over to the people who will carry them forward.

Participatory learning

The community holds the analysis; we hold the notebook.

Ecology & livelihood

Every livelihood tested against one question: does the processing stay in the village?

Culture & welfare

Knowledge documented in order to be used, not only to be preserved.

Linked innovation

Education, technology, art, agriculture and indigenous wisdom — because in a village none of these is separate.

The hornbill, mountain and the orchid

A

The Hornbill

Needs old, unfelled trees to nest — so where it flies, the forest is whole. A farmer of the forest.

C

The Circle

The terrain itself, in the colour of its soil.

People · Planet · Purpose

B

The Orchid

Grows on trees without feeding on them — rooted in something larger, taking nothing.

D

The Hills

Bhutan foothills above the Dooars, and the Eastern Ghats through Gajapati.

Every element in our mark was chosen for what it does, not for how it looks. A bird that only lives where the forest is whole. A flower that roots in a tree without feeding on it. A circle of terrain in the colour of its own soil.

The Beginning

Where it started

During the Covid lockdown, more than ten million migrant workers walked home. Two teachers watched — and asked what would let a family stay.

They spent two years building the answer before registering anything.

“The teacher is of course an artist, but being an artist does not mean that he or she can make the profile, can shape the students. What the educator does in teaching is to make it possible for the students to become themselves.”

Paulo Freire, We Make the Road by Walking
