MTF Annapurna: Our work on Agro-Ecology & Food Security
Our agro-ecology and food security work follows four steps. We research local farming. We build or adapt models from what we learn. We put these models into practice on farmers' own fields and homes. And we build a local food archive with community members — saving local foods, seeds and knowledge for the future. Projects on agro-ecology and food security comes under MTF Annapurna.
Food Security through Nutritional Gardens
Sixty-two households across Gajapati district, Odisha, and the forest-fringe villages of the Dooars now grow their own nutrition. Each kitchen garden turns a patch of homestead land into year-round greens and vitamins families once bought.
Agro-Ecology Models
Fifteen Agro-Ecology models developed or refined with communities — composting, mixed cropping, water-wise beds, native seed systems. Each is tested on real fields before it travels, so what reaches the next village already works there.
